The Harris County ladies luncheon started around 1977. Edna and Mary Fort, along with Frances Mobley, decided it would be fun to meet for lunch, and were soon joined by other ladies. The earliest ladies included: Laura Williams, Chic Walton, Mary Williams, Mary Fuss, Lucille Bauer, Lyra McMichael, Nancy Crye, Jennie Mae Sivell, Mildred Cooksey and Monroe Littlefield. They were soon joined by Grace Roddenbery, Elizabeth Blanton, Sandra Reames and Martha Walton.
From 1977 to 1987 The group met at Werner Bludau, Brother Alex Copeland’s home place at noon. When the ladies who worked at the bank joined them their meeting time was changed to 1:00. The bank ladies included: Virginia Bunn, Eula Mae Nelson, Rachel Chambers, Shirley Douthit and Fran Stanford. They were joined by: Fran White, Maybeth Fagan, Melcina Johnson, Marion Phillips, Mary Cooper, Amy McCoy and Janie Layfield.
When Werner sold his restaurant, around 1987, the luncheon was moved to Pine Mountain because it had more restaurants.
The luncheon expanded until there were 95 members. As of May 2004 there were 70 members on the roster. Two hostesses volunteered each month to decide where the meeting would be held and to call the members. It was held on the second Friday of each month at 1:00.
